I found the book a nice companion to the AMC series. The more complete interviews with the directors (and Arnold!) are here, so not as choppy as the series (that is not bouncing back and force across people). Cameron is a good, enthusiast interviewer .. and has read a lot of science fiction (as a boy “one a day, except for Dune took a few”). The interview with the various directors shows how they all appreciate each others work. Perhaps a common theme is Cameron’s statement “Science fiction never predicts the future, but it can prevent the future if we listen and pay attention”. The interview with Spielberg draws parallels between the red planet and the red menace of communism. I thought Guillermo Del Toro’s interview focusing on horror, was most revealing, and his view of identifying with Frankenstein’s creature (“the essence of horror is what should be and is not, or what should not be and is”).The articles were all well done, and particularly appreciated Sidney Perkowitz on Intelligent machines and Lisa Yaszek on time travel (with a beginning reference to the Indian Epic Mahabharata) and continuing with Dr. Who.Cameron’s list of favorite films and books alone is valuable! I also enjoyed the included full color movie posters from Metropolis to the Terminator.

An exceptional book, especially if you, like me, haven't seen the TV special. Obviously the main attractions are the interviews, most of which are pretty interesting, but the essays regarding different topics related to sci-fi --monsters, space, etc.-- are intriguing and set the tone for the interviews that follows them. And talking about the interviews --the best ones are the ones with Spielberg and Del Toro. They definitely have a passion for the genre, and talk a lot about both their own work, their inspirations, and concepts such as futurism and the development of technology. . The one with Arnold is a little dull --maybe because he's an actor and not one of the creators-- and the one with Ridley Scott was a little disappointing. Not BAD, mind you, but compared with the ones with Spielberg and Del Toro, a little on the superficial side. Apart from that, though, this is one interesting and compulsively readable book --perfect for both cinephiles and fans of sci-fi in general.

Serious rip-off. Pretty pictures; no text at all! Do not purchase the kindle edition!

The TV mini-series was great. The book is a little better. If I could change one thing then I would include DVDs of the TV show and make it a complete package.

This companion book to the series was an early Father's Day gift. My dad really enjoyed it. He loves SciFi. I was so intrigued by it that I might borrow it or just buy another copy.

My copy just arrived, and it looks like it's gonna be a fun read, but I was somewhat appalled when I flipped to page 86, and saw that the image of the Discovery from "2001: A Space Odyssey" was upside down! Not a deal-breaker, but SHEESH!

My son is enjoying all of the content and photographs in this book. Lots of great information for anyone interested in this industry in any manner.

I got this as a birthday present. He really likes it. It reminded him of all the books he has formally read.
