I've owned an organic farm in my past life, and since I am now spending most of my days in a suburban yard, and at the same time still have the growing bug, if find I not only need to scale down, I need to see how to get by with much less space. Amanda Johnson's book if just what I was looking for. Her raised bed garden idea is just the ticket. And instead of sprinkler head shooting water all over the place, her idea of drip irrigation is right on. I liked her idea too of putting some sort of weed barrier under the soil which would be at the previous ground level, the putting the new, weed free soil on top, which of course creates the raised bed. We always had to spend so much time pulling weeds. This is a much better plan
Solid introduction to gardening. This book definitely lives up to it's "For Dummies" title. If you are a person who knows very little about gardening and are looking for an introductory text to get you started I do believe this book is a good. Choice. I find that some people dislike shorter books but for me personally. I look specifically for books that can be quickly digested so I spend an hour reading and another doing further research on the book's topics.I think the discussion of water systems was the most valuable and introduced me to a topic that I never actually considered earlier. Overall this is a very good intro and should definitely be used as such.
I am always thinking of owning a beautiful garden to grow my favorite veggies and crops. But not knowing how to do, I just dream. Thanks for writing this book. It really helped me have a wonderful garden, and there are a lot of my favorite plants and vegetables. Hope you have one, too.
I really can't believe how this book got such high marks! There's hardly anything in it -- it's a thin paperback with lots of blank pages, large type and a lot of space between lines. I read it in around 15 minutes and it really didn't offer much practical information at all. Please consider one of the other dummy books if you're serious about learning how to garden.
Great book really!! It is good and simple information which is good for the beginners. I'd love to do something with my garden but I just have no idea how to begin, what is best to do and which vegetables to choose and would be easy to grow. This book helped clearing everything! From the soil, treating the weeds, watering technique, the vegetable choice, how to organize your garden... Really great information! Thanks a lot for this book!

I've been long- thinking about starting my garden in our front yard through raised beds. However, the will is not enough to take my first step until I came across this book. This is a true didactic guide for newbies of gardening. It will definitely teach you on what to plant; how to prepare your soil; what other special considerations you must check out before planting- such as PH level, the measurement of rows and its depths; when to use tubers; when and how to do watering techniques correctly and many other great ideas at your own disposal. Two thumbs up for a well written ebook- compact and edifying!
Gave this book to my son. He is happy with it. Has a lot of good info for planting.
