About the Author
Scott Benjamin Remer was born on November 19, 1993 in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Beachwood, Ohio with his parents, his brother Alex, and his cats, Kinsman (R.I.P.) and Cleo. He currently resides in New York City. He graduated from Yale University with a major in Ethics, Politics, and Economics. He obtained a Masters in Philosophy in Political Thought and Intellectual History at University of Cambridge in 2017. Scott tutors a select group of spellers each year in preparation for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Words of Wisdom is his first book, but it will not be his last.

My son is preparing to return to the National Spelling Bee; not only does this book provide lists of words to know, but it also gives readers ways to approach words of different language origins. Pronunciations are seldom given, but words are often grouped as representative of certain spelling-sound associations within a language. The book isn’t designed to replace the dictionary, but it has inspired many productive searches in the online dictionary that is now the standard reference for the national bee. Additionally, I appreciate that Scott Remer (and his mom) have taken pains to make the book a little more kid-friendly by including snippets of narrative, anecdotes and advice from a variety of Bee participants, and puzzle-exercises—in all, over 400 pages of really useful and readable material for what a top tutor would charge for about 20 minutes.
